MICHAL ŠUMICHRAST (*1991)
graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava where he studied free graphics. under Prof. Róbert Jančovič. He lives and works in Bratislava. During his studies he spent several months in Tokyo at the University of Arts (Geidai). His work focuses on themes closely related to the state of contemporary society. He likes to criticize and ridicule various social phenomena with a strong anti-fascist undertone. His work also includes a critique of capitalism, but it is clearly intersectional, touching on, among other things, feminist themes and workers’ issues. He uses his own humour and wit, often employing pop culture, historical or subcultural references in his works. In his paintings, he is very fond of working with text in the form of various slogans and sayings. In addition to freelance work, he also works in comics, illustration and posters. Although he studied graphic design, he is primarily a watercolour painter and drawer.
